Seeing Chad in OC

Chad and I try to get together for lunch about once a month at a small sushi place just south of the Big Mall.  This is my new favorite--a shrimp something or other; we always get the Samurai Burrito to share, too.

This time when I went, I was able to see his new office.

And him in it.
He also helped me photograph my quilts for my Quilt History.

When I see some of these quilts I've given away, it's like meeting an old friend.  I made this when we lived in Texas, lo these many years ago, and when we moved to Riverside, it hung in our hallway outside his bedroom.  One day when cleaning out, I found that when Chad had gone to bed, he'd sketch this quilt, with its ordered grid and colorations.  So I gave it to him.  I used to teach Amish quilts in a little shop in Texas and made this for a sample.  It's machine-pieced, yet hand quilted (many Primary Board Meetings) and there is no batting, only flannel, for the Amish quilts are flatter than our poufy polyester-filled quilts.

Andrew let Chad bring in his "train" quilt.  The backing is a fabric with trains all over it.

This is high enough, but Chad would have needed extender arms to get the width so we ended up photographing it on the floor.  Many of my quilts I've never seen "all at once", meaning like a picture on a wall.  This was the quilt I sent him on his mission in Washington DC.  I can't remember seeing it since I sent it off to him.

Thanks for the nice day, and congratulations again on your promotion!
