Dave's Trip to the Netherlands
On Wednesday, the day I arrived in the Netherlands, I was able to walk around and see some of Utrecht, a university town located 30 miles or so from Amsterdam. The workshop in which I spoke took place in Utrecht. This is a canal and bridge in downtown Utrecht.
Another bridge in the center of Utrecht. There are bicycles and bike paths everywhere.
An interesting building with the city tower in the background.
A high school near where my hotel was located.
On Saturday, I rented a bike and toured Amsterdam. There are more bikes and bike paths than in Davis. According to the people who rented me the bike, there are also 60,000 bicycles stolen each year in Amsterdam. Now it is starting to sound more like Davis. This was a pretty canal and bridge in a quiet part of downtown Amsterdam.
An interesting building in a traditional Flemish or Dutch style.
One of a series of flower shops along a canal in Amsterdam.
Another interesting building.
The Rijks museum as viewed from the gardens from the back.
A shot of Vondel Park in Amsterdam.
Another interesting building and canal.
Detail work on a building down the street from my hotel.
Colors changing on a vine in the neighborhood of my hotel.
A modified bicycle for carrying children and other things.
A nice building near Vondel Park that has been converted into a hotel.
Artistic detail on a residence in the Vondel park area and near my hotel.
Another interesting building in the Vondel Park area.
A door in the same area.
The police station located 50 meters up the street from my hotel - at the intersection of Emmastraat and Williamsparkweg.

Dave Eastmond Family News
This past month we took a trip to Vancouver, where Dave enjoyed his EMS conference—enjoyed it more than ever because he was not in charge of it. Dave also finished two giant review documents this summer for EPA in DC, and has just started his Fall quarter at UCR. This past weekend we hosted his ETOX annual Fall party where we had 41 people. We had a few frantic moments when the rental tables and chairs didn't show up until just before it began, but the food (potluck from the faculty and students, represented by a wide range of cultures and countries) was delicious.
I've discovered how ungraded student essays can feel like a heavy weight, and frankly sometimes I wish sometimes I didn't have so much grading. It's the price to pay to be a teacher in a classroom, which I really enjoy. My calling at times seems overwhelming, and while I don't doubt the Lord's wisdom in his choice of me as Stake Young Women President, I can only hope that I measure up to what's required. I made it through camp, and am getting ready for a training meeting in October, as well as attending Tuesday night meetings with the stake Young Women.
We had lunch with Alex and his parents yesterday, and wished it could have been all the little grandchildren in one great big party at In and Out. Someday? Soon.
The picture at the top of this is when we went to Los Angeles to celebrate our anniversary. We're at Disney Concert Hall, on the upper level.
Thanks to all the families for writing and posting—it means the world to me.
P.S. Enjoy this photo of Chad and an In and Out 4x4--see his blog for more info.
